Hello friends, today I am going to tell you that the Types of Electrical Insulator in Overhead lines, different types of insulators, Type of Insulators: If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.
Type of Insulators
There are different types of insulators. Some particular types of insulators are as follows
- Pin-type insulators
- Suspension type insulators
- Strain type insulators
- Shackle-type insulators
Their brief description is as follows.
Pin-Type Insulators
Insulators are also called insulators. These pins are mounted on a cross-arm located on a typical insulator pole. There is a pit on its upper part, which is used for housing the driver. The conductor is passed through this groove and is wound by the same annealed wire of the same material.
Pin-type insulators are used up to 33 kV, and at voltages above 33 kV, they become heavy, which is not economical.

Suspension Type Insulators
The cost of a pin-type insulator increases with the increase of working voltage. Pin-type insulators are not economical at voltages above 33 kV. Therefore, swing type insulator is generally used for high voltage.
In these insulators, several porcelain discs are connected in series by a metal link. Hence, the driver would be placed at the lowest part of the string, and the top piece of the line would be located on the cross-arm. Is. For example, if the operating voltage is 33 kV, then the number of discs in the thread will be 3. The insulator of the hammock format is shown in the picture.
Strain Type Insulators
When the line has an end or edge or sharp curve, then there is a lot of tension in the bar. In these lines, strain insulators are used to reduce stress. There is no distinct difference in the structure of the swing type and the deformation type insulator.
When a swing type insulator is used in a horizontal position, it is called deformation type. For the lowest voltage (11kV), Shackle insulators are used instead of strain insulators. For high voltage transmission lines, strain insulators are used. When the tension in the line is high, two or more threads are used in parallel. The typical distortion insulator is shown in the figure.
Shackle-Type Insulators
For some time, Shackle insulators are being used as strain insulators. Shackle-type insulators are used for low voltage distribution lines. These insulators are used in horizontal or vertical positions. The shackle insulators are made of porcelain. It can be used for any situation. These are bolted directly onto the cross arm. The driver is fixed in the pit by a soft winding wire. A shackle insulator is shown in the figure.
