Vertical Core Type Induction Furnace

It is a developed form of direct core type furnace. It has the vertical channel of charge in which a vertical crucible is used which is suitable for metal refining point of view.

It has good magnetic coupling as compared to core type furnace, hence it has low leakage reactance and high power factor. It can operate on a normal frequency supply.

Working Principle of Vertical Core Type Induction Furnace

The bottom of the furnace is ‘V’ shaped, so the molten metal stays less at the bottom of the furnace. Due to the pinch effect, current flows in one direction in nearby molecules and they repel each other, but there is less chance of interference in any circuit because the weight of the charge holds them together. The molten metal keeps rotating in the V part by the electromagnetic field between the two halves.

The parts inside the furnace depend mostly on the charge. The top of the furnace is covered with an insulated lid, which can be removed when the charge is inserted.

Necessary hydraulic arrangements have to be made to remove the molten metal so that the furnace can be skewed. The efficiency of this furnace is high. The temperature control is simple and accurate. It has less metal decay. It can be used at a normal frequency of 50 Hz.
