General Features of Traction Motors: Mechanical Features & Electrical Features

Hello friends, today I am going to tell you General Features of Traction Motors: Mechanical Features & Electrical Features, Mechanical Features and Electrical Features of Traction Motors: If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.

General Features of Traction Motors

While selecting traction motors, their electrical properties (characteristics) and mechanical properties (characteristics) are selected for satisfactory performance. These symptoms are as follows.

traction motor

(A) Mechanical Features

(i) Robustness – Every vehicle used in the work of transportation, per kilometer of load, energy is spent, that is, as the weight of the vehicle increases, along with it the expenditure of energy also increases. Therefore, the load of the traction motor itself should be minimal, but while designing the motor, it should be made light as well as its surface should be taken care of so that it can bear the sudden shock and mechanical stress during braking.

(ii) Ability to Continuous Vibration – During the working time of the motor, many types of vibrations are generated in it, so the motor should be strong and strong to bear these vibrations continuously. Thus we conclude that the cast iron frame would not be suitable for completing the magnetic circuit of the traction motor as it is unable to withstand the surface vibrations. Therefore, forged steel frames that are mechanically stronger and stronger should be used. Therefore, the parts of the motor that can withstand high stresses should be made of wrought steel plates and light alloys.

(iii) Minimum Weight Dimension – There is limited space in the connecting rod to hold the motor. Hence the total perimeter of the motor depends on the space available in the engine. The overall dimension of the traction motor should be minimum, especially the diameter of the motor should be minimum. The physical dimensions of the motor depending on the insulation used in it. Nowadays, H class insulating insulation is used in the traction motor, which occupies minimum space.

(iv) High Efficiency – The mechanical and electrical efficiency of the connecting rod motor used should be high. – Body or shell. (Body of Enclosure) – The body or shell of the motor should be completely closed so that dust, dirt, mud, mud, and water, etc. cannot enter inside the motor. This problem is mostly due to being under the motor car. Therefore, a body should be made to protect it.
