Working Principle of Two Stroke Petrol Engine
In this also fuel is burnt by carburetor like in four stroke. Instead of inlet and outlet valves, there is an inlet or outletport a transferport. The crunk of the engine is a gas barrier. Transfer port is related to the crack case. These three ports are opened and closed by the piston itself. This part is called the deflector. There is a sparking plug on the cylinder head.
This engine has following types of two cycles–
1.First Stroke (Compression Stroke)- In this stroke the engine moves from BDC to TDC. At the beginning of this stroke, the transfer port and adjust port open and the mixture from the crank case enters the cylinder through the transfer. As the piston moves towards TDC. First the transfer port and then the adjustport are closed. When both the ports are closed, there is a compression of the mixture filled in the cylinder.
In this stroke, as the piston rises, the volume of the crank case increases and the pressure decreases. Thus vacuum is created in the crank case. As the inlet port is opened while moving over the piston, the new mixture enters the crank case through the carburetor. Compression of the mixture takes place in the cylinder. At the end of this process, the mixture is ignited by sparking by the sparking plug. This combustion process takes place at a constant volume.
2.Second Stroke (Expansion Stroke) – In this, the piston moves from TDC to BDC due to the pressure generated by combustion, so that first the adjustport then the transfer port opens. With the opening of the adjust port, the burnt gases come out and with the opening of the transfer port, the mixture re-enters the cylinder.
