What is Digital Signal?
A digital signal is a signal that manipulates physical quantities in such a way that we can represent their equivalent form in a digital form, that is, as a discrete value.

Digital variables have only discrete values. Digital variables are not real variables.

- Digital Systems Are Generally Easier to Design – Digital systems are built using switching circuits that do not require exact values of current and voltage. - Digital Systems Are Less Affected by Noise– Since the exact value of current and voltage is not important in digital systems, there is no unwanted or spurious variation in voltage or current in digital systems. Does not create a critical condition. Therefore digital systems are not affected much by noise.
- Storing Digital Information is Easy– The method of storing information in a digital system is straightforward. By using flip-flops and latches, we can store information for a long time.
- Low Cost – In this, we can fabricate many components on a single chip, due to which the cost of a digital system is very low.
- Accuracy and Precision – In digital systems, we can handle the number of digits precisely and accurately, by adding a few more switching circuits. Whereas in the analog system we can handle only two or three digits accurately because in the analog system the value of current and voltage is proportional to the component value.
- Efficiency – We can transmit and manipulate digital data more efficiently.
- Programmable – We can change the controlling operations of digital circuits as per our requirement because they are programmable.
