What is Protective Relay?
An immunity relay is a device that, after sensing a fault, tripping the circuit breaker in the circuit, isolates the faulty part from the fault-free circuit quickly.
The function of the immunological relay: The primary part of an immunological relay is to keep the electrical power system entirely fault-free for maintaining continuity in the electric power supply or to quickly re-power the electrical power system by immediately detecting the fault and isolating only the contaminated part and at the same time in the circuit. Basic Requirements of Protective Relay
1. Selectivity – In the defect state, without disturbing any other part of the electrical system, only the appropriately defective (unhealthy) function should be disconnected from the electrical system as a whole. This action of the trait is called the Discriminationaction of the protective mechanism.
2. Sensitivity – The protection mechanism should operate at the initial value of the low fault current and isolate the unhealthy part of the electrical system.
3. Reliability – The protection mechanism must complete its work under the entirely determined conditions. That is, the operation of the mechanism should not fail at the time of faulty need.
4. Quickness – To increase the safety factor of the electrical equipment of the electrical system and the stability of operation, the response of the protection mechanism should be very quick.
5. Stability – The protection mechanism should be operated only at the time of need; that is, it should not be operated in other unnecessary conditions.
6. Provision for Future Extension – There should be a provision of protection mechanism and imagination for the expansion of the power system in the future. There should not be any kind of obstruction due to the primary mechanism.
