What is a circuit breaker? And Basic Principle of Circuit Breaker

Are you What is a circuit breaker? And Basic Principle of Circuit Breaker. If yes then I am sharing detailed information about circuit breaker in this post.

What is a circuit breaker?

A circuit breaker is a mechanical device capable of closing and opening the circuit under all (normal and abnormal) conditions. If there are no other instructions, its design should be such that the earth fault or short circuit fault is not detected. In this situation, the electric current can be automatically cut off.

Basic Principle of Circuit Breaker

In normal conditions, the fixed contact and the moving contact are in contact with each other. The moving contacts can also be separated from the stationary contacts by hand operation or in the event of an electrical fault. Due to the high current flowing in the line, the trip relay gets more power through the current transformer circulated in the circuit.

Operates a self-propelled method for tripping the breaker. The trip coil or relay is designed so that it does not use on average current, but on increasing the value of current from the average value, the induced electromotive force and power in the trip coil increases, which is handled by the release mechanism.

It separates the mobile contacts from the stationary contacts by operating them. Due to this, the flow of current is interrupted, due to which an arc is generated between the contacts. The connections are placed in a closed chamber filled with an insulating medium (gas or oil). This insulating material extinguishes the arc.
