What is a High Pressure Boiler : Working, Characteristics

Hello friends, today I am going to tell you What is High Pressure Boiler, Working of High Pressure Boiler, Characteristics of High Pressure Boiler :If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.

What is a High Pressure Boiler?

The higher the efficiency of the boiler, the more economical it is. Various types of accessories are used to increase efficiency. But still not much benefit is obtained. Therefore, steam is generated at higher pressure and temperature for greater efficiency. Various high pressure boilers were created for high pressure steam. Those high pressure boilers have been developed and are being used in practice at very high pressures even up to super critical pressure. Steam temperature is 500 °C and capacity is up to 600 ton/h. The properties of steam change significantly in the critical range.

Therefore, the design and functioning of these boilers differ from other ordinary low pressure boilers

  1. using propelled circulation of water.
  2. Use of smaller diameter tubes.
  3. No use of water drum.
  4. Steam generation at a pressure higher than the critical pressure.
  5. use of pressure combustion.
  6. To increase the rate of transfer of liquefied gases at supersonic speed.
  7. Heating water with superheated steam.
  8. Using a water cooled furnace.
  9. Use of forced blower and driven wind fan.
  10. Use of air pre-heater.

Working of High Pressure Boiler

flow of water in low pressure boilers is from bottom to top by siphonic effect, but at high pressure this flow decreases. Therefore, in boilers with pressure above 160 bar, external Pump is used. In high pressure boilers, tubes of smaller diameter are used and arranged in more groups to more effectively use the heat generated by the combustion of fuel. Very small steam separation drums are used in high pressure boilers. In “one-hose boiler” there is no shell at all. This compacts the boiler. The load is also reduced and less floor area is required so that the enthalpy of vaporization does not have to be provided. Pressure combustion is used for more rapid complete combustion of fuel. This increases the rate of heat dissipation. Liquefied fuel or pulverized coal is used for this.

Characteristics of High Pressure Boilers

high pressure boilers are as follows

  1. Use of propelled circulation of pressure boiler the flow of water is from bottom to top in siphon system but at high pressure this effect decreases. Therefore, in boilers with pressure above 160 bar, an external pump is used to accelerate the flow.
  2. Use of smaller diameter tubes- In high pressure boilers, smaller diameter tubes are used and arranged in groups to make full use of the steam heat from the fuel.
  3. No use of water drum – In high pressure boilers very small steam separation drums are used “one-hose boilers” do not have shells at all. This would reduce the size of the boiler. and their weight is also reduced and less floor area is required.
  4. In high pressure boilers, steam is generated at a pressure higher than the critical pressure, so that the enthalpy of vaporization of the steam does not have to be provided.
  5. In these boilers pressure combustion is used for complete combustion of fuel more quickly. In this the rate of heat dissipation increases. Liquefied fuel or pulverized coal is used for this.
  6. To make liquefied gases flow at supersonic speed to increase heat transfer.
  7. Heating water with superheated steam.
  8. Using water cooled furnace.
  9. Use of forced wind and driven wind fan.
  10. Use of air pre-heater.
