What is a Centrifugal Pump, Working

Hello friends, today I am going to tell you What is a centrifugal pump, Parts of Centrifugal Pump, Working of Centrifugal Pump :If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.

What is a centrifugal pump

It is a device for lifting liquids from the bottom in which sufficient pressure is obtained by the centrifugal process. The process of a centrifugal pump is quite the opposite of that of a reaction turbine.

Parts of Centrifugal Pump – Its parts are as follows

  1. Impeller It is a wheel inside which a blade is attached to increase the velocity of the fluid.
  2. Casing – This is a cover around the impeller, so that air and water cannot seep through.
  3. Suction Pipe – This is a simple pipe whose upper part is connected to the entry point of the pump so that the lower part is almost above the water level. Keep the meter down. Have a pipe. A valve and strainer are installed at the lower end of the pipe, through which clean water reaches the pump. valve to water pump Prevents it from coming back from theThe water from the suction pipe enters the center of the impeller, also called the eye, and flows through the casing built around the impeller.
  4. Delivery Pipe- It takes water from the exit point of the pump and distributes the water at high places. It has a delivery valve and pressure measuring device.
  5. Delivery Valve- Delivery pipe has a valve attached to it to control the flow of water near the casing, this valve is called delivery valve.
  6. Prime Movers- This is the device for rotating the shaft of the impeller. Most often this is a motor, but a steam engine can also be used.
  7. Air Vent- This is used to control the air in the casing of the pump. It is like a hole.

Working of Centrifugal Pump

Before running the pump, it is essential that the air is completely removed from the suction pipe and pump casing, this method is called priming. For priming these parts are filled with water.

What is a centrifugal pump

Problems can arise if this pump is left out of suction, due to which pressure is not generated in the pump. After priming the pump, the delivery valve is closed and the motor supply is turned on to rotate the impeller. Gradually increase the speed of the pump until it returns to normal. At normal speed, enough energy is generated in the pump to lift the water. Water continuously enters the impeller through suction pipe and centrifugal force is generated in the water due to the rotation of the impeller, which increases the kinetic energy of the water. After this, the water with more kinetic energy passes through a gradually increasing path, due to which its kinetic energy is converted into pressure energy, due to which the pressure energy in the water at the exit point in the pump is high. Its efficiency ranges from 50-85%.
