Hello friends, in today’s article I am going to tell you what is Individual Drives and group Drives? – its Advantages and Disadvantages: What is Individual Drives, Advantages of Individual Drives, Disadvantages of Individual Drives, What is Group Drives: If you also want to know then keep reading this article completely. so let’s start
what is Individual Drives?
Individual Drives means that individual motors are combined with each machine. This process is called single conduction. The lathe machine is a good example of this.
Advantages of IndividualDrive
Single driving has the following advantages
(i) Any machine can be installed at any place as per his wish. ()
(ii) The loss of mechanical power is less because each machine has a separate motor.
(iii) If the motor of a machine fails in a single operation, then that machine remains closed, which has little effect on the productivity and there is no possibility of stopping the whole work. (iv) Each motor can be completely controlled by a separate operator. It is easily possible to increase or decrease the speed of the motor and control etc.
(v) The motor can be turned off when it is not working so that the load losses in the motor can be eliminated.
(vi) It can be made better in terms of productivity and safety of the industrial layout and can be changed at any time as desired.

Disadvantages of IndividualDrives
(i) Due to having separate motors in a single drive, its maintenance cost is high.
(ii) Single motor requires separate motor for each machine, due to which the initial cost for running the machines is high.
(iii) There are many industries in which many processes are related to each other which have to be controlled. If a process depends on another process, it is very difficult to control or shut down simultaneously, so it can be stopped only when the main switch is to be closed.
(iv) In a single operation, the motor may burn if more load is applied to the motor in the machine, whereas in group operation, due to more load on one machine, there is not much effect, and adjustment is done.
(v) Small motor is required in single driving as each machine has a separate motor so a small motor is sufficient. The efficiency and power of a small motor are low.
What is Group Drives?
In group driving, several machines are driven together by a single motor. In this, various machines are run from the shaft of the motor by connecting them to the pulley and belt. All the pulleys attached to it are of the stepped pulley type, through which the speed of the machines can be changed.
Advantages of Group Drive
Group driving has the following advantages
(i) In group driving, all the machines are run by the same motor, so a load of all the machines remains on one motor. In conduction, the direct load rests on the motor.
(ii) It has only one motor which can be controlled easily.
(iii) In group driving each process is connected to a single motor. All processes can be controlled when the motor is turned off.
(iv) Almost the entire load of the group driving motor is more than the total load on the single drive motor.
(v) The efficiency of the group driving motor is also high.
Disadvantages of Group Drive
Following are the disadvantages of group conduction-
(i) In group operation, all the machines stop due to the failure of the motor.
(ii) In group driving, if all the machines are not running simultaneously, then the load on the motor is less. Due to less load on the motor, the motor works at low capacity, due to which its efficiency and power factor are low.
(iii) In group driving, a separate motor cannot be used because the capacity of the motor which is used is determined in advance based on all the machines.
(iv) Here high-quality shafts, belts, and pulleys are used.
(v) All belts and pulleys must be fitted with guards or covers.
(vi) Its biggest drawback is that mechanical energy is transmitted through pulleys and shafts, due to which some mechanical energy is lost.
