Hello friends, today I will tell you what is Earthing , Advantages of Earthing, Plate Earthing System: If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.
What is Earthing
Earthing is the system of connecting the neutral point of supply or the metal parts of electrical equipment in which current does not flow, to the common body of the earth, so that at any time a fault occurs in the electrical installation, the electrical energy can be dissipated immediately without danger. May it be This ensures that the ground potential of a current-carrying conductor will not exceed its design insulation and protects the workmen from electric shock.
Advantage of Earthing
(i) If earthing is done with precision on electrical equipment, then there is no electric shock to man even if there is the erosion of current.
(ii) As the current leakage occurs, it comes in contact with the ground, due to which the value of current increases, and M.C.B. Closes the circuit, and the fuse melts and breaks the circuit.
(iii) The electric current-carrying parts in the equipment and installation remain at ground potential.
(iv) In the case of high voltage on overhead lines, it is adjusted to the ground due to earthing arrangement, which does not cause damage to the line and equipment.
(v) By connecting the earthing with transformer, motor, alternator, and all the machines, the problem of accidents is reduced.
Plate Earthing method
In plate earthing, a plate of copper or galvanized iron is used. This is the most popular method of earthing.
The size of the plate is 60 cm. x 60 cm. x 6.30 mm. Should not be less than, if there is a copper plate then its size is 60 cm. x 60 cm. x 3.15 mm. should not be less than
The plate is placed vertically inside the ground, and the top end of the plate should not be less than 1.5 m (below) from the top surface of the ground. Galvanized iron wire and copper wire are used with galvanized iron and copper plate, respectively. 15 cm. Thick charcoal layer and 15 cm. A layer of salt is placed around the plate in sequence so that the moisture remains around the plate. Its arrangement is shown in the figure. A galvanized iron pipe is inserted from the top end of the plate to the ground surface. The upper end of this galvanized pipe is fitted with a wire mesh funnel, through which water is fed when needed during the summer season so that the moisture remains around the plate. One or two buckets of water should be added after every 15 days. A manhole of cement concrete is also made over it to pour water and protect the pipe from mechanical damage.

List of materials and accessories for earthing
The details of the materials used in plate earthing are as follows
(i) Earthing plate
(ii) earthing wire
(iii) earthing pipe with socket
(iv) nuts, bolts, and washers
(v) salt, coal, water
(i) Earthing Plate – It is made of copper or galvanized iron. The length and width of the plate are 60 cm. But there is a difference in thickness. Copperplate 3.2 mm. and GI. of 6 mm. thickness is used.
(ii) Earthing Wire – Like the plate, the wire is also used of copper.
(iii) Earthing Pipe with Socket – These are made of galvanized iron and length up to the plate under the ground. Its diameter is 12 mm. from 30 mm. it happens. There is a circuit on the top of the pipe, which is installed to prevent dust, garbage, etc., in the pipe.
(iv) Nut, Bolt and Washer – These are made of galvanized iron and used to fix the wire.
(v) Salt, Coal, and Water – Salt, coal, and water are added to the soil as needed to retain the moisture around the plate.
