What is Double Cage Induction Motor

Hello friends, today I am going to tell you What is Double Cage Induction Motor : If you also want to know then keep reading this article completely.

What is Double Cage Induction Motor

Two cage-type coils are done in the rotor of this type of motor. The advantage of this is that the value of the initial torque is increased in it. In this, the coiling is done with brass and copper rods. It is shown in figure (a). Brass rods have more resistance to the coil, and copper rods have more resistance.

What is Double Cage Induction Motor

Initially, the magnetic flux does not go down, and an electromotive force is generated in the external coil. Due to the high resistance of the outer ring, the starting torque is high, and the motor runs smoothly even on load. When the engine reaches full speed, the magnetic flux moves down the rotor. Because of this, its speed increases, and the reaction of the coil starts decreasing. At the total rate of the rotor, the frequency is reduced to two cycles, and the impedance becomes equal to the resistance of the rotor to the coil. The effort resistance to the flow of current in a low-frequency copper coil is less due to a decrease in reactance, and the central part of the rotor current will be in the copper coil than in the high-resistance outer brass coil hence the copper-brass coil. Will be responsible for producing a torque sufficient to maintain the momentum.

Parts of a double cage induction motor

Double Cage Induction Motor consists of two parts:-

1.stator 2.rotor

1. Stator- It is similar to cage type motor.
2. Rotor – This rotor is also a slotted core of silicon steel, but short-circuit copper rods are not used in it as a cage. Still, the rotor is generally coiled in three phases. It is unnecessary that the rotor winding should be equally To be coiled for the phases for which the stator is coiled because the rotating magnetic field in which the rotor operates is the same no matter how many phases there are on the stator. Still, the rotor must be coiled for the same number of poles. Go as far as being on the stator. The open ends of this coil are connected with slippering.

Usage of double cage induction motor

This type of motor is most commonly used in industrial applications. This motor is used wherever speed control is not required. Some of their essential industrial applications are as follows-

(i) in belt conveyor
(ii) in compressor
(ii) in water pumps
(iv) in line shaft
(v) in the wings
