Hello friends, today I am going to tell you that the Power Station Interconnected System : its Avantages and Disadvantages, Advantages of Power Station Interconnection System, Disadvantages of Power Station Interconnection System: If you also want to know, then keep reading this article completely.
Power Station Interconnection System
The load on any plant is divided into two parts: base load and peak load. The best way to reduce the cost of unit production is to interconnect the two stations. The station with higher capacity should be employed as baseload supply, and the one with less power should be used for peak load supply. Be taken to work.
Let S1 and S2 are two power stations supplying load currents I1 and I2 to the load with the help of a transmission line.
The cost can be reduced by the interconnection of power stations as follows.
(i) Increase in Reliability: Continuity and reliability of power supply is maintained by using the interconnected grid system. It can be easily connected to other interconnected generating stations at the time of shutdown or maintenance of the generating station. The power supply can be obtained from
(ii) Reduction in Total Installed Capacity: Generally, the load curves of all the generating stations are not the same, i.e., the peak load at the generating stations does not come together. The interconnection makes it possible that one plant can receive power from another plant with less load at peak load. Thus we can make the power station with less capacity than the peak load.
(iii) Equality of Electric Supply Charges: Due to the interconnection of power stations, the power supply charges can be homogenized.
(iv) Load Sharing: With the help of this system, the load on two or more interconnected power stations can be divided so that a more efficient plant load with less running cost and more Less efficient plant with running cost can be used as peak load plant.
(v) Capital Cost: Due to the interconnected grid system, fewer higher capacity generators can be used at the generating station. This increases the efficiency of the power system, consequently reducing the capital cost of the generating system, thereby reducing the cost per unit of power.
(vi) Emergency Power Supply: At the time of maintenance of one power station or emergency, the continuity of power supply from another power station can be maintained.
Due to interconnected power stations, their operation costs are reduced, and the frequency changing frequently can be controlled.
Advantages of Power Station Interconnection System
Following are the advantages of this system
- Exchange of Peak Load: If the peak load is more than its capacity, then the additional burden can be given to another station.
- Use of Old Plant: Old plants with less capacity can also be used by connecting them with a plant of higher power.
- Economically Low Price Operation: High capacity plants should operate at high load factor, and low capacity should operate only during peak load time.
- Increment in Diversity Factor: The maximum demand on a plant through an interconnection system is less than the sum of all the individual needs on a plant. The value of the coefficient of expansion increases, thereby increasing the capacity of the system. And the price per unit of output decreases.
- Decrement in Reserve Ability: The reserve capacity requirement is less when several stations are interconnected in parallel to each other. This reduces the overall cost of the plant.
Disadvantages of Power Station Interconnection System
Following are the disadvantages of this system.
- In an interconnected system, the work of structuring the interconnection transmission line between two power stations is costly.
- When a fault occurs in the transmission line due to interconnection, many current flows in the transmission line. To avoid over-current, expensive circuit breakers are used in transmission.
- The generators of all interconnected stations operate on the same frequency.
