Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker: Construction & Working, Advantages, Disadvantages

Are you what is  Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker: Construction & Working, Advantages, Disadvantages?. If yes then I am sharing detailed information about Oil Circuit Breaker in this post.

What is Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker

Circuit breakers with more oil were more prone to burns, so fewer circuit breakers were created. Oil is used for two purposes; one is used as an arc stopping medium, the other is used for separation, but 90% oil is used for separation, and 10% is used for arc prevention.

A minimum or low oil circuit breaker is used only to prevent arc by filling oil into a small container.

Construction of Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker

The diagram shows the design of the minimum oil circuit breaker. It consists of two chambers, and both are filled with oil. The upper chamber is called the circuit breaker chamber, and the lower chamber is called the auxiliary chamber. The circuit via the chamber requires less oil to the minimum.

Working of Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker

Under normal circumstances, movable and immovable contracts remain in place. Under abnormal conditions, the mobile contact is moved from its place by the spring. Because of the separation between the two chambers, the arch remains between them. The heat generated by the arc causes the oil to evaporate. Due to this, high-pressure gas is produced. Due to this, the flow of oil through the central hole is stopped, with moving contact, and oil flows through the tabulator. The arc is completely extinguished due to the tooling method, which can happen in all respects by chambering in separate parts.

Advantages of Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker

  1. The advantages of the minimum oil circuit breaker are as follows
  2. It uses a very less amount of oil.
  3. It takes less space.
  4. The chances of catching fire are also reduced.

Disadvantages of Minimum Oil Circuit Breaker

  1. The disadvantages of the minimum oil circuit breaker are as follows
  2. Carbonization increases due to low oil content.
  3. It takes time to remove the gas from the contact ends.

Applications of Minimal Oil Circuit Breaker

  1. This circuit is the most commonly used and can be used for almost all voltage rates.
