What is base load and peak load
The change in load on the power plant gives a load curve of variable unity. The load on the power plant changes over time. Hence there are two types of load on the power plant.
(i) Base load
The variable load which remains on the power system throughout the day is called baseload. As shown in the figure, a load of 20 MW remains on the power system for a whole day (24 hrs). So here, the 20 MW load is the baseload. The baseload on the power plant is always almost constant.
Generally, the hydropower stations are run on the base load in the rainy season in the interconnected grid system. The thermal power stations are run on the base load in the dry season when the water in the dam decreases. Is. Nuclear power stations are usually run on baseload only.
(ii) Peak load
The peak load of the load over the baseload in a power plant is called the peak load, or the maximum electrical load that comes to the power plant at any given moment is called peak load. It is shown in the picture.
The demand for the electric load at each electric power station varies several times a day, according to which some generators can be switched on or off. The power plants which are used to take the peak load along with the baseload power plants are called peak load power stations. The peak loads arrive at the power stations for a short period of time, so their load factor is low, and the peak load energy value is high.
